Garden Cabin with Green Oak Cladding

A work in progress that is close to completion, this garden building is made using materials mainly found in our Farnham reclamation.

The Green oak external cladding has been cut-to-order from our oak sleepers and will eventually tone down to a silvery grey colour over time, adding to the character of the building and as it is machined from hardwood it will last much longer than any softwood alternatives. The same oak was used for the sawn 5” decking boards used in the porch.

The arched door and lockable double glazed, leaded windows were used from our reclaimed stock found in our yard.

For the roof and wall cladding, 5×2 joists have been cut down and lightly sanded for a smooth but rustic finish making a warm and cosy atmosphere inside.

All the internal furniture has been made from the same materials in order to match the walls and roof and to add to the effect. This was also a great way to use up any offcuts from the cladding and create storage inside.

This project is a perfect example of how using reclaimed materials can enhance a project and at a lower cost than buying new.
